Options For Financing a College Education

College loans just got more expensive. Interest rates on new government sponsored Stafford loans jumped from 5.3% to 68%, and new PLUS loans for parents went from 6.1% to 8.5% this month. Families with college age kids need to shop the options wisely.

Guaranteed Education Tuition
Many states now offer '529' plans, where you can buy College Credits now at a guaranteed rate, and use when your child is ready to attend college. College credits are usable in most states, not just those where you reside. Visit the Saving for College web site, select a state and click 'Go', you will then see a list of 529 plans sorted by plan name.

My Buck Won't Be going in Howard Schultz Pocket Anymore! (Schultz is the Previous owner of the Seattle Sonics & Seattle Storm basketball teams)

No Sonics? No Starbucks for me!
I have been a long time fan of the Seattle Super Sonics
(in Seattle) and a long time supporter of Starbucks.

Everyday, I buy a Starbucks, non-fat, no-whip Mocha, that costs me $4 - that's $28 a week, $112 a month, $1344 a year!

With the recent sale of the Seattle Sonics to Oklahoma - I've really been struggling with WHY Howard Schultz would betray Seattle and potentially move a team that has been one of Seattle's icons for many years. Answer: bottom line is the mighty BUCK!

I know there are two sides to every story, but from the articles I've been reading in the Seattle P-I and Times, Schultz just wanted out - he wanted his bucks out of the team, and he really didn't care who the buyer was.

Anyway - my personal way of NOT supporting Schultz is not to buy my daily Starbucks coffee!

Why should I put MY BUCK in his pocket?

No Sonics? No Starbucks for me!

If you are a Seattle Sonics fan, wear one of my buttons or shirts, to show you do not support the sale of the Sonics. (all profits goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation)
